Meet Trustee Susan Laudick
District students know her as a favorite substitute named Mrs. Laudick.
“However, Susan Laudick is also a long-time trustee with the Foundation — who has been championing district projects behind the scenes as a vice co-chairperson of projects. These projects have ranged from smaller grants to large-scale, multi-year undertakings.
“The PIE and Helping Hand grants have engaged the Foundation in so many conversations that have led to a major project,” Susan said. “One of my favorite of these major projects was the Sunny Hill Learning Commons.”
Located at one of the district’s elementary schools, the Sunny Hill Learning Commons was a three-year transformation of a “book warehouse” into a 21st Century learning space. Supported by the Foundation, the modern learning space got the financial boost it needed from Vince Foglia and his Foglia Family Foundation.
“The Commons are a big deal!” Susan says. “The project took a long time to come to fruition with a lot of trustees working on it. Then Mr. Foglia got involved and really stepped up as a community member to make it happen.”
The purpose of the Sunny Hill Learning Commons is to improve student literacy and technology proficiency, with an additional benefit of serving the local community.
“Now when I sub at Sunny Hill, the other staff members tell the kids to thank me for this special space right here,” Susan added. “This project was evidence of the type of community partnerships that the Ed Foundation forges in an effort to support our students. It’s special for the educators there, too, who are so passionate.”
Being one of those passionate educators, Susan was a curriculum specialist before stopping work to raise her family. She joined the Foundation to keep her connected to education. She will complete her second and final term as a trustee this summer.
“I will continue subbing in the district because I love being in the classroom with students,” Susan added. “And I will still help out with the grants programs at the Foundation.”
